Alvi Unde or laddu prepared from Alvi(Garden cress) seeds is usually given to lactating women, mostly, after 30 days from the date of delivery. Anecdotal evidence suggests that, it helps in increasing milk production, strengthening the spine etc,. in addition to other health benefits.
Preparation of this laddu is very easy.
Ingredients required:-

1. Grated tender coconut - 1 and a half cup.
2. Coconut water - 1 cup(around 200ml)
3. Powdered Jaggery - 1 cup
4. Alvi seeeds or Garden Cress seeds - 2 fists.
5. Ghee - 4 - 5 tsp
5. Elaichi - 2 nos (Optional)
Preparation method:-
Step 1: Soak the alvi seeds in 1 cup of coconut water. Leave it for 2 hours. It can also be soaked in water, but some might not the like the smell that emanates from it.
Step 2: Pour the powdered jaggery into a vessel and heat it at low flame and stir it continuously till turns to a syrup like consistency.

Step 3: Add some ghee to the jaggery syrup.
Step 4: Add the grated coconut to that and keep stirring till it turns slightly brown.
Step 5: Add the soaked alvi seeds to the above. Mix it thoroughly and heat it at low flame till the water vapor gets evaporated.
Step 6: Then set aside the mixture. Apply some ghee to your palm and roll the mixture with your hands to a round shaped laddu.
